Send us a text

Buckle up for a rollercoaster of revelations with Bob Winbush, a.k.a. Bushman, as he lays bare his storied life from a sharecropper's son to a music industry dynamo. His candid confessionals transport you from the dusty fields of Gold Dust to the glittering heights of showbiz, rubbing shoulders with icons like James Brown and 50 Cent. But Bob's journey is marred by dark turns and detours that see him entangled with the law and the Mexican Cartel, leading to a stint in prison that would forever change his perspective on life, family, and the road to redemption.

As we peel back the layers of Bushman's complex saga, he's not shy about owning his past and the life lessons he's picked up along the way. The podcast morphs into a session of deep reflection as Bob acknowledges his gratitude for a second chance—a recurring anthem that echoes throughout his book. This conversation is not just a story of contrasts and comebacks but a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of thankfulness and growth. Join us for an episode that promises to be as enlightening as it is enthralling.

Speaker 1:

attention spit to the beat. Nobody do it better.

Speaker 2:

All right, we're going to let Mr Bob Winbush tell us about himself and the nature of the book. Gratitude.

Speaker 1:

Yes, my name is Bob. You've got to call me Bush. I'm Bushman. I had a good friend of mine tell me about writing a book. Look at Dale, and I've been in my head for like seven years and my good friend Odell Sanders there he's the one initiated. Give it up for Odell To tell me to win Bush, you need to go and write a book. I'm going to go back to when they said Gold Dust. Gold Dust is a little old country hick town about an hour ride from here. Gold Dust is what you call a place where you're a country town, where you raise beans, corn and all that. I'm a shell cropper, son. Get to the meat.

Speaker 2:

I started working you got to tell me get to the meat.

Speaker 1:

Get to the meat, to the meats, and I'm gonna go from there. From there I became a promoter as I left by the promoter. I mean I've been booked everybody you can think of from James Brown, indie, irie, 50 Cent, lulipus, jesus.

Speaker 2:

Did y'all know that?

Speaker 1:

Vicky Wynders. I've did gospel, I've done it all. Also one of my artists that he said he made me, but I really made him. Who?

Speaker 2:

is that.

Speaker 1:

We always fight, Stacey Marino.

Speaker 2:

Give it up for Stacey Marino, everybody Woo.

Speaker 1:

Stacey used to sing a whole lot for Star Way to the Stars when I was on Beale Street and Stacey used to come in and win my money every week. Oh, wow. And I could see how well he could really sing. So I started letting Stacey open up for Bobby Womack. Willie. In the I read Jaheim. If I bought him, he was my opening act because he's one hell of a stage performer from there I this is kind of.

Speaker 1:

From there I uh this not on this ain't kind of crazy. But from there I went into the. I've been a gangster. I'm just gonna keep it real with you. I've been a gangster. I've uh, I've did a lot of shows. I spent a lot of money with Miss Marjorie going down to the club. She said I was rich, went bush yeah, he had plenty of money.

Speaker 3:

He still do, don't he mama.

Speaker 1:

She said I still do Well, but to make it-.

Speaker 2:

Simple, knowing too Dr.

Speaker 1:

Simple. To make a long story short. I've dealt with every famous person that you can think of. I've sit down and had dinner with them, from Michael Jordan to all of them. I've learned a lot.

Speaker 1:

And from there I got connected. I had a club on Brooks Road called the Shell Entertainment Complex and we brought a lot of shows in. And that's when I ran into the Mexican Cartel that's why it said Top Promoter to Prison. I got connected with the cartel and I went haywire and that's just keeping it real. I paid my dues and after I saw really how God gave me another chance. That's when I come up with gratitude I'm thankful I've had a second chance, I have had my redemption, I paid my dues and I'm thankful I have had a second chance. I have had my redemption, I paid my dues and I'm thankful. Sometimes we make a lot of bad choices. They are not mistakes. I made bad choices because I didn't have to make those choices, but that's something that I chose to do. I've been married four times, but all my ex-wives we're still good friends. I'm like this you take care of me, I'm going to take care of you.

Speaker 3:

You've got children.

Speaker 1:

Yes, I have a son and I have two daughters. I got a son who lives in Dallas and I got a daughter who lives in Philadelphia. I went to Philadelphia after I graduated from high school and my first wife was a black Puerto Rican girl. I married her and I got a baby by her. I moved her back to Ripley and I got her pregnant and it just didn't work out. She's just too violent for me. I shipped her back to Philadelphia. What you mean? Violent, fighting and arguing and jealous. If I walked to the street out there, she think I'm with somebody. But I wasn't. But I admit this now.

Speaker 1:

I have been a whore in my days. What are you telling me? To tell the truth, I have had my days. But there's one thing that I have learned I respect women. I've had a madam. The madam did a lot of work for me when I had artists come in town, because artists want different things. They want the best weed, they want the best ladies, and I had a madam that would take care of that. Now, a lot of this is in my book, but I just ma'am, I'm listening.

Speaker 2:

Come on, she said you had some whores.

Speaker 1:

Yes, I did. Yeah, when I said I had a madam, the madam took care of the whore. Because I'm not no pimp, I let them because I'm about business. I'm not no pimp Because I'm about business. I'm a businessman. If you got ladies that want to go do that, that's their business. Just give me my percentage. The madam one got all the money and the ladies got all their money. But all I'm asking for is my 20% or 10%. I mean I had that connection and they knew I had that connection. So therefore I'm that connection and they knew I had that connection. So therefore I'm dealing with millionaires, you know, and when you're dealing with millionaires, they don't mind dropping off them hundreds and twos and threes and fours and thousands. It just depends on how bad you said the whore is. Is she a bad whore? She's going to get paid good.

Speaker 2:

Bad as in good or bad as in bad.

Speaker 1:

No, I mean good period on all levels.

Speaker 2:

Bad, bad, she's handling it.

Speaker 1:

She's handling it, that's right, she's handling it. She's doing it right. She's doing whatever he wants. She's taking that money Right. She's making that money Whatever he wanted. If 50 Cent want that, well, 50 Cent gonna make sure he pay her. Now that's one of my bodyguards right there. If they don't act right, he gonna make sure that everything's gonna be taken care of. I had about 8, 9, 10 bodyguards. Get what you paid for. Wow, that's right. Okay, well, we thank you.

Speaker 1:

Well, I just want to say this I'm coming with gratitude too, and it's going to go a lot deeper than gratitude one. Gratitude two is going to be about raw and real. I'm going to come raw and I'm going to come real. This here is just an introduction about who I am and what I am. And I really didn't think the book was going to sell, but the book has did tremendously well. And I really didn't think the book was going to sell, but the book has did tremendously as well and I highly appreciate my good friend there. He got a book out, also Enduring to the End. Now he got some heavy knowledge there.

Speaker 1:

Odell Sander used to cater all my food to all the radio stations and all of that, and I made sure I took care of him and he's been in my life for over three decades, a real, serious brother in anybody's business, and that's who I was dealing with. I deal with real businessmen and I'm about a man that's on time. If you ain't on time with me, I'm going to cut your head. That's why I was getting on Miss Carla. Well, I'm behind it For sure. I met Miss Carla. I'm going to tell you about Miss Carla. I met Miss Carla on Facebook. I'd never seen her in my life. I don't know this lady from a can of paint. I know her mother. Her mother used to work at Charade.

Speaker 1:

He invited me to his birthday party Right and his tickets sold out and I couldn't help her. So I'm the kind of person like this you catering me and taking me, I'm going to look out for you. So what happened is I told Ms Carla. I said, ms Carla, I can't get you to the show. We had a pre-birthday party, me and Bev Johnson at the rocking chair, and it had sold out that night. And I said, well, I'll tell you this, if you just bear with me, I'll get you some tickets to the blues show, the All Right Blues show. I got her four tickets and that's what I did Two, I thought it was four.

Speaker 2:

Two. I mean it was two of him on the show Two.

Speaker 1:

Okay, well, okay, well, oh Jesus. But I I mean what I'm saying is that in my life and in my business I have dealt with all levels of people. I went to school to be a computer programmer. I'm a certified computer operator. I also I'm a fire inspector. I retired off the fire department. So I'm just not no thug. I'm a certified computer operator. I also am a fire inspector. I retired off the fire department. So I'm just not no thug. I'm very educated. I went to school, the business of the warden.

Speaker 1:

So what I'm trying to tell you you can't look at a person and judge them. So I had a light side and I had a dark side. And the dark side was I was a thug and a hooligan. I called myself, I was a piece of shit and that's period. If I couldn't talk to you, if I saw something I liked, if I couldn't get you in my conversation, I had enough money to buy you. Just being real, I mean, I'm being honest with you A lot of folks would go. A lot of people wouldn't go. But I have bought a lot of houses, I've bought a lot of cars. I done, done it all. You name it. I made a million dollars in 2007. I've lived a millionaire life, I've been blessed and I have had a gun pull on me snapped three times and I didn't get shot. So that's what I'm trying to tell you all.

Speaker 3:

Speaker 1:

I got a new song coming out called Sisters of Love. I got a new book, like I said, it's coming out going to be Gratitude to Raw and Love Raw and let me Raw and Real, and that's kind of what I'm focused on now and I appreciate Ms Carla putting this thing together here. I was very impressed because I didn't know this lady. I just met her on. Impressed because I didn't know this lady. I just met her on Facebook. I didn't know her from a can of paint. Like I said, that's my favorite word I didn't know her. But I do know her mother. Man, her mother go way back. And yeah, we do. But I want to say this you know anything. You want to ask me anything, you want to know about me. Here I am.

Speaker 1:

They gave me 10. With the blessing of my brother, with the blessing of Obama, I did 5. They shipped me all the way to La Tuna in New Mexico. They didn't want. They said if I liked the Mexicans so much, they sent me to where they were at.

Speaker 1:

One thing I learned in Mexico I was in New Mexico. I'm a conversationist, so it was about 300 Mexicans on the compound and about 10 blacks and one Indian and about eight white. And when we had a problem with the Mexicans they kind of made the black guys kind of miserable. But I was like this I don't follow nobody, I follow me. I don't follow no group. I ain't in no clique, I'm in God's clique. I don't care about your sorority, I don't care about none of that. Everybody in this town know who I am. I know a lot of people hate on me. I don't have a problem with people hating and talking about me, but I don't like to face the people. So when the little riot broke out in Latuna, I was in Latuna in New Mexico.

Speaker 1:

When the riot broke out I was working with the Mexicans. I was an inspector that was going around the prison spraying for roaches and tarantulas because I was on a desert 600 acres. They got tarantulas out there that tall, I'm serious Rattlesnakes and roadrunners, that's what I was dealing with. So when everything broke off in a little semi-ride, they wouldn't let the blacks eat with them, but I fed so many blacks, I mean so many Mexicans. I mean I was well off. I had plenty. I had plenty. A lot of Mexicans that been getting life in prison, don't have no family, don't have nobody to love them or nobody to talk to them. So whenever they got hungry I was just going to my locker and get whatever you want, and that created a friendship with them. So when that happened they treated me like I was, just like a Mexican. So my time in Mexico was awesome. Then they shipped me to Manchester. I was trying to get close to home and after I left Manchester I moved, they sent me to Millerton. And after I left Manchester I moved, they sent me to Millerton.

Speaker 1:

I, my last wife I married, was in prison. It only lasted one month. But let me tell you, my first wife lasted 11 months. My second wife no, my first wife lasted three months, my second wife 11 months and my third wife oh my God, she was the best wife I ever had. It lasted four years. I effed that up because I cheated, and when I cheated she did not never forgive me. So after after I did that, I tried to get back to her. She wasn't alive, so I left. Then she come looking for me. Why are you going to look for me, me, and you tell me you don't love me anymore? It's over with. I had fell out of love myself then and my last wife I was in prison. It been a two.
